The failure to maintain proper lane usage when driving on a Tennessee Interstate can lead to devastating consequences. A 22-year-old man operating an SUV claims that he took evasive action when another vehicle traveled into his lane, causing the SUV to become entangled in a motor vehicle accident. The man reportedly swerved to avoid the other car, causing him to cross the median and smash into a van carrying six children.
According to Nashville officials, the accident occurred on Interstate 440 on a recent Wednesday afternoon. The SUV driver was westbound when he crossed the median and traveled into the eastbound lanes, directly into the path of the van. The collision was fatal, and the 49-year-old van driver died at the scene of the accident.
Three of the children in the van were the daughters of the driver, ages 10, 12 and 14. The others were his 11 and 13-year-old nieces, along with his 9-year-old nephew. The children were transported to a hospital and are all expected to survive.
The investigation into this motor vehicle accident was underway at the time of the media report. The parents of the children who were injured in this tragic accident will likely face high medical expenses, and the mother of the three children who lost their father will also have to cope with end of life costs and other financial obstacles. If negligence on the part of the other driver os properly documented, financial relief may be sought by filing a wrongful death claim and personal injury claims in a Tennessee civil court. In addition to medical and end-of-life expenses, other monetary losses recognized under applicable laws may be awarded.
