According to reports, the crash was caused by the bassist in the rock band 3 Doors Down. The rocker was allegedly speeding on Interstate 40 when he clipped the front of a pickup truck driving in the opposite direction. That relatively small point of contact ended up violently throwing the pickup out of control, sending it flipping down an embankment. The driver of the pickup was ejected from his vehicle and died in the accident.
When police responded to the scene, they reported that the bassist appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The driver then admitted that he had been drinking hard cider earlier in the evening. He stated that he had also taken at least two different types of prescription drugs. Police arrested him and the man even tried to bring controlled substances into the jail with him.

The driver has been charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication and remains in jail.
