Icy conditions recently resulted in numerous car accidents throughout West Tennessee. The slippery roads, which cause cars to slide right off the roadways and lead to car accidents, inspired a lot of parents to wonder why so many schools remained open on Jan. 9. At least one injury was reported regarding a 14-year-old who was struck by a car whose driver lost control of the vehicle.
The 14-year-old victim was on the way to school at the time of the incident, which occurred at approximately 7 a.m. The 16-year-old driver who struck the student was probably also on her way to school, according to police. The injured pedestrian was rushed to the hospital to receive treatment for a possible fractured leg.
In addition to this incident, which police say was caused by icy conditions, two school buses found themselves stranded due to slick roadways. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the school bus incidents, and the students eventually made their way to school. Another young driver’s vehicle slid off the road and flipped. Reportedly, he survived without injury.

During icy road conditions, Tennessee drivers must be exceedingly careful to prevent accident and injury to themselves, passengers, and other drivers and pedestrians with whom they share the roads. Those who are injured in icy car accidents may be able to pursue claims against a driver who was negligent in causing or contributing to the incident. Emergency medical care is extremely expensive, and so are the months of rehabilitative therapy that is often required following a serious injury. By successfully litigating a personal injury claim, accident victims may get financial compensation to help pay for the care they require.
