Patients nationwide, including in Tennessee, typically expect medical professionals to provide a level of care that would resolve their medical issues, or, at least, ensure improved health. Unfortunately, some doctors fail to uphold reasonable standards of care, often having to face medical malpractice lawsuits as a result. It is surprising that there are cases in which surgical procedures that are typically regarded as routine, such as appendectomies, are botched.
A doctor and a medical facility in another state are facing a lawsuit that was filed by a former patient claiming medical malpractice. According to the complaint, the defendant doctor performed an emergency appendectomy on the plaintiff in November 2014. The plaintiff claims that he subsequently suffered pain in the same area, and it was determined that the site of the previous surgical procedure had become infected again.
A second, more invasive surgery was performed in March. At this time, it was determined that the doctor had failed to remove the complete appendix during the first surgery, leaving behind a stump measuring about 3 centimeters. The stump had become infected, and the severe pain was caused by its ultimate rupture. The plaintiff alleges negligence on the part of the defendants and seeks in excess of $50,000, plus legal fees and costs.

Any Tennessee resident who is suffering the consequences of botched surgical procedures is entitled to pursue compensation for additional medical expenses brought about by the medical malpractice. Establishing evidence of medical negligence before the court may lead to a monetary award to cover medical expenses. In addition, compensation may also be allowed for other losses such as pain and suffering, loss of life enjoyment and more — as appropriate under state laws.
